Johnny Carter -Triple Jump

Defending is always harder then winning the first. Last season freshman Johnny Carter had a magical season and I still remember the roar from the crowd at both the valley meet and the state meet when he landed the winning jumps. Winning a California state title is amazingly difficult but to do it as a freshman is truly amazing.

To follow that up must be very difficult, now everyone knows you and you are the man. besides having to overcome the expectations and mental stress, Carter has been battling injuries most of the season. Fortunately, Carter has survived the gauntlet and won valley and will be returning to defend his triple jump title.

Jerrid Lewis - 800

Jerrid has been my local pick in the 800 all season long and he has won just about every 800 he has run. After a very successful cross country season, Lewis is now headed to state in the 800. he is ranked in the top 25 in the state and has a good shot at making the 800 final on Saturday night.

Isiah Purvis - 200, 400 & 1600 Relay

With the transfer of Purvis to Ridgeview, Ridgeview went from being a good team to being a really good team. They took second as a team behind the Buchanan juggernaut at valley and Isiah was a big part of this his team's success.

Purvis is in the top 25 in the state in the 200 and the 400. His 1600 relay team has the 11th best time in the state (3:19.11) and it was run at the SWYL meet where they had little competition.

Last year at state, Isiah ran for Liberty and came in th out in the 200 prelims and the 1600 relay team came in 13th in the prelims.
